City of Lethbridge News Update
City and LPS teaching digital safety through new web toolkit
The City of Lethbridge, in partnership with Lethbridge Police Service and as part of Cyber Security Awareness Month, is excited to introduce a new cyber safety resource.
The Online Safety Toolkit is a one-stop shop for information about technology, social media, cyberbullying and cybersecurity that applies to people of all ages. Families and communities can instantly access a collection of helpful tips and useful tools to improve their understanding of the digital world and promote responsible digital citizenship.
The toolkit, which was developed as part of the Building Safer Communities initiative, carries information about:

- Learn how to introduce children to the internet and social media, teach acceptable usage and limit negative actions.
- Find conversation starters designed to help parents to educate kids of all ages, from kindergarten to Grade 12.
Understanding online platforms
- See which social media apps are age-appropriate and understand how they work.
- Learn about the types of slang that go along with each app.
Cyberbullying and the law
- Access information about cyberbullying and actions you can take to report and prevent it.
- Find resources to help victims of cyberbullying.
Spotting misinformation, frauds and scams
- Find out how to determine whether information found online is reliable or fake.
- Learn how to protect yourself from becoming the victim of a scam.
