Dean Hawkins appointed principal for new westside elementary school

Lethbridge School Division is pleased to announce Dean Hawkins has been appointed principal for the new westside elementary school in the Garry Station neighbourhood, commencing the 2024/2025 school year.
“I am gratified, privileged and humbled by the opportunity to collaborate with the Division, superintendent and the school community of Garry Station,” said Hawkins. “I am honoured to be named the first principal of the new elementary school in Garry Station and I am eager to foster collaboration among all stakeholders in the pursuit of cultivating a nurturing, academically-driven environment.”
Throughout his educational career, Hawkins has sought to create schools that feature safe, inclusive and engaging atmospheres, where every student can flourish.
“I look forward to creating and developing educational experiences that embodies innovation, inclusivity and engagement for all students,” said Hawkins.
Hawkins has over 24 years of elementary and middle school administrative experience in two school divisions. He has served as the Principal at Wilson Middle School for the past 12 years.
“I extend my gratitude to the northside school community,” said Hawkins. “Over the course of the last 19 years, I have experienced profound growth and development, thanks to the support of the dedicated staff, students and community members. Together, we have achieved remarkable success across various endeavours and this time will always be cherished. I believe that the exceptional staff, students and school community will continue to surpass expectations and achieve greatness in the years ahead.”
Prior to becoming principal at Wilson, Hawkins served as the principal at Galbraith Elementary School for four years. He also spent three years as a vice-principal before becoming the principal at Galbraith, and five years as an elementary principal with Palliser School Division prior to joining Lethbridge School Division.
Hawkins earned a Bachelor of Education from the University of Lethbridge and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership, also from the University of Lethbridge.
